Recipes

I ask you......Why do they keep making food that I can't have?  Mom bribed me with some left-over turkey to post this recipe.  This is her all time favorite recipe that her Aunt Gerry always brought to family get-togethers.  (Don't let the soaking of the beans scare you.)  It is one of the easiest foods to make.  Bon Appetit!

Aunt Gerry's Baked Beans

1 lb. Great Northern Beans in the bag
1 small bottle Ketshup
1 c sugar
1/4 lb bacon cut up
1 small onion cut up
1 carrot

1.  Cover beans with hot water in a large cooking pan.  Water should be a couple of inches higher than the beans.  Soak over-night.
2.  The next day.....You may need to add a little water.  Add one carrot and bring to a boil.  Turn heat down on middle low for about 1 hour.  Taste to make sure beans are soft.
3.  Remove carrot.  (Carrot soaks up gas bubbles.)  Important for gatherings if you want to stay friends.
4.  If beans have lots of extra water, remove some, then dump beans and remaining water in a cassarole dish or roasting pan.  Add Ketshup, sugar, bacon, and onion and stir.  Bake at 350 for about 1 hour.

Dried Beef Cheese Ball

Mom used to make this with Dr. Pepper.  But, having no Dr. Pepper on hand, she made this instead.  I have to say it is much tastier than the ready made cheese balls you get at the grocery store!

Dried Beef Cheese Ball

2 pkg. cream cheese (Start with 1 pkg, taste, then add more if the mixture is too strong.)  Mom used both    pkgs.
1 2.5 oz. dried beef cut up in small bits
2 green onions diced
1/4 onion powder
1 T Worchestershire Sauce

Mix all together with mixer.  Form into a ball and roll in crushed pecans.

Bean Dip

2 pkg. cream cheese
1 can refried beans
1 can chili beans
1 can green chilies
1 small container of sour cream
1 8 oz pkg. of mexican mixture of cheese

Layer all together in 9 x 13 pan or cassarole dish in the order listed.  Bake at 350 about 30 mins.
Serve with taco chips, Doritos, Fritos, etc.....

Aunt Sue asked for this receipe.....I can't tell you if it is good or not.....I can't have any....even if I pathetically beg.  Mom says its for OBVIOUS reasons.  I think she just wants more for herself!  Can anyone say STINGY?

Strawberry Dip

I'm told there are some weirdos out there that like fruit.  Take Elsa, a German Shepherd, for example.  She loved eating frozen blueberries.  Then there's Pocco, a little Jack Russell I'm friends with.  She loves fruit, so she may be interested in this dip.  And of course, you humans, who eat just about anything, will enjoy it.  Even though Mom says it tastes really fresh, I'll take an old dead possum any day!  Personally, unless something from the meat group is included, I want nothing to do with this dip.

Strawberry Dip

1 pkg. cream cheese
3/4 pint strawberries
2 T honey
1 t vanilla

Blend all in a food processor and wella!  Strawberry Dip!
Any other crazy dogs out there that like fruit?

Meatloaf

This is by far the best and easiest meatloaf ever!  The recipe comes from Antonia's kitchen.  She is the one responsible for making me a part of my human family......I'll take seconds please, or thirds when no one is looking!

2 lb. hamburger
1/2 chopped onion
1 t garlic powder
1 pkg. Chicken Stuffing
1 c water
2 eggs or 1 T crushed flaxseed in a little water
1 c barbeque sauce or ketchup   Save half of it for topping.

Mix all ingredients together and shape into a loaf.
Place in a 13 x 9 baking dish or cookie sheet.
Brush remaining sauce or ketchup on top.
Bake 350 for about 60 mins.  Check for doneness with a fork.

The following is one of my favorites.....as long as I can do more than just smell it, and can actually beg a little.

Sloppy Joes

2 lb. hamburger
1/2 c. onion
1 t garlic powder
2 t yellow mustard
1 1/2 c ketchup
6 t brown sugar

Brown hamburger and onion.  Add other ingredients and enjoy.
Feeds a family or ONE hungry rat terrier.
Divide recipe in half if you don't want to share with your human.
